Luna-1, also known as Luna 1B, was a Soviet satellite launched on February 28, 1957, by the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Its primary mission was to study the effects of lunar gravity on spacecraft and to test various scientific instruments. The satellite reached a height of approximately 410 kilometers above Earth's surface before being captured by the Moon after launch.
