Akihito is a Japanese Emperor who served as the last emperor of Japan from 27 August 1945 until his abdication in 1989, following the end of World War II. He was born on 16 March 1883 and succeeded his father, Hirohito, who ascended to the throne in 1945. Akihito's reign saw Japan's transition from a military dictatorship into a constitutional monarchy
